Image 5. My introduction to painting the wonderful Suffolk came in 2002 with a Heavy Horse painting workshop based at Banham Zoo in Norfolk, using their Shires and Suffolks as models, follwed by an exhibition there devoted to the Heavy Horse. This was another pivotal moment in my artistic journey where I discovered a new passion and focus.
This painting is from around the same time, of Gressenhall horses, I think Zulu and Zeberdee. I do like to know all the horses I paint as individuals. It is one that I am most proud of. For me it just has a somewhat indefinable something, that "X" factor. It just captures the whole essence of the Suffolk Punch.
